First Saturday Root & Route!
Digging out invasive roots and clearing the walking routes every first Saturday of the month.
from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Excluding holidays
We need your hands! Join us every first Saturday of the month (except holidays) to help keep our beautiful gardens free from invasive species, clear the trails, and meet fellow nature lovers.
No experience is necessary! Come for an hour or stay the whole morning--every bit of help is appreciated!

Burton Mesa Chaparral Garden (BMCG) at Allan Hancock College, Lompoc Valley Center, 1 Hancock Dr., Lompoc, on the north side of campus

Drought Tolerant Garden (DTG) at 1801 W. Central Ave., Lompoc

Planned work: we will pull out invasive plant species, trim overgrown trails, and protect native plants.
What to bring: trimmers, hedgers, or pruning shears for path clearing; shovels or weed removal tools for pulling invasive species; a bucket or wheelbarrow for transporting the trimmings and pulled plants.
Additional items: Gloves, water, a hat, and sunscreen.
We invite the community to help care for our public gardens: the Burton Mesa Chaparral Garden that celebrates native flora and the Drought Tolerant Garden, a demonstration garden for the City of Lompoc.
